Arizona Leaders Urge Voters to Trust Election System

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 29, 2024

Phoenix, AZ— Democracy Defense Project Arizona Board members Governor Jan Brewer, Congressman Matt Salmon, Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines and former legislator Daniel Hernandez issued the following statement regarding the Arizona Primary Election tomorrow:

“Tomorrow, individuals across Arizona will proudly participate in the Primary Election, a cornerstone of our democracy. As current and former elected officials, we have confidence in the robust systems and processes in place across every county to ensure that every vote is accurately counted. Arizona has long set the gold standard for early voting and election day protocols, thanks to our trained and skilled election officials who are well-prepared to address any challenges that may arise, ensuring every voter can cast their ballot.

“In recent years, some have raised questions about how our elections are managed. While it’s important to address concerns, we want to reassure everyone that our processes are secure and trustworthy. Today, we enthusiastically encourage every eligible voter who has not yet voted to head to the polls tomorrow with confidence and pride. We also call on every candidate on the ballot to accept the voters’ final decision with grace. Regardless of the outcome, we must trust in the integrity of our election processes and the accurate counting of every vote.”

At a time when America’s confidence in the state of our elections and democracy has significantly eroded, the Democracy Defense Project brings together trusted leaders to bolster faith in the integrity of our elections system. Designed to serve as a counterweight to attempts to undermine and sow distrust in election integrity, the Democracy Defense Project’s board members will speak up when these instances arise and publicly defend those who have sworn to uphold the rule of law regardless of party or outcome.
