(Atlanta, GA) – A new poll released today by the Democracy Defense Project, a bipartisan group of former elected officials and leaders who are committed to free and fair elections, re-affirms growing and widespread confidence in Georgia’s elections and highlights the top issues for Presidential candidates vying for votes in the Peach State.
According to the survey conducted by Cygnal, a national polling and survey research firm with unmatched experience in Georgia, a clear majority (56%) of voters are confident that votes across the country will be accurately cast and counted. That number only grows when voters are asked about elections in Georgia specifically – 63% are confident that votes in Georgia elections will be accurately cast and counted. 54% of Georgia Republicans think the casting and counting of votes in the upcoming 2024 Georgia elections will be more accurate compared to 2020.
“Georgia voters are confident in the integrity of the election and trust that the casting and counting of ballots will be accurate,” said Brent Buchanan, President and Founder of Cygnal. “They are also focused on the future – not the past – and are looking for presidential candidates to address inflation and the U.S. economy.”
A plurality of voters (40%) back SB202, the elections reform legislation signed into law by Governor Kemp in 2021. Of those who support SB202, 71% appreciate that it strengthens voter ID requirements and 52% support enhanced oversight of elections offices.
“Georgia leaders have worked diligently over the past several years to make our elections secure, accessible, and fair. Voters should have confidence that when they cast their ballot in the November election, that it will be counted and tabulated as intended.
“While some continue to spread misinformation and intentionally undermine confidence in our democratic process, Georgians from all walks of life are simply not buying it. This poll highlights once again that winning a competitive state like ours requires a focus on the pressing issues of the day – not on relitigating the past.” – DDP-Georgia Board Members (Former Governor Nathan Deal (R), Former Governor Roy Barnes (D), Former U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R), Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin (D)
When it comes to Peach State voters’ top priorities for the upcoming election, just 5% of voters identified “election integrity” as their top priority, significantly trailing behind “inflation and the economy” (34%), which dominated the concerns of voters in the state. Notably, among voters undecided in the presidential race, nearly half pointed to inflation and economic issues (46%), while a mere 2% expressed worry about “election integrity.” This clear disparity underscores the dominant focus on economic stability among voters as the election nears, with voters prioritizing these economic matters.
The survey also re-affirms that Georgia remains a highly competitive state on the national stage. Former President Donald Trump holds a narrow 1-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris. Voters view both candidates nearly identically in favorability and unfavorability. Unmarried voters are the most undecided.
This probabilistic survey was conducted September 26-29, with 808 likely general election voters. It has a margin of error of ±3.43%. Likely general election voters were interviewed via live calls and SMS text-to-web. This survey was weighted to a 2024 likely general election universe.
