NEVADA – Democracy Defense Project Nevada (DDP) applauded Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar’s recent initiative to enhance the accuracy of voter registration lists. This proactive measure is in line with our mission to defend the transparency, safety, security, and validity of Nevada’s electoral system.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, nearly 8% of Nevada’s active registered voters will soon receive postcards from county election officials. Voters must return these postcards by August 6 to remain on the active voter list and receive their mail ballots for the upcoming presidential election. This process is crucial for keeping voter rolls accurate and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

Former Governor Brian Sandoval, co-chair of DDP Nevada, commended the initiative, stating, “The state’s actions are a significant step in upholding the integrity and accuracy of our voter registration system. By ensuring that our voter rolls are current, Nevadans can be assured our systems are being actively refreshed, instilling more trust and confidence into our electoral process.”

In addition to the postcard mailing, Secretary Aguilar is leading a transition to a new, state-led Voter Registration and Election Management System (VREMS). This system will streamline the voter roll maintenance and improve the precision and efficiency of Nevada’s election administration.

Former Nevada Speaker of the Assembly Rich Perkins, co-chair of DDP Nevada, added, “This initiative is a strong demonstration of our state’s dedication to bolstering voter security and accuracy. It is vital that we support efforts – in a bi-partisan fashion – that further strengthen our electoral system to promote and protect the right of every eligible voter.”
