NEVADA – Today, a bipartisan coalition announced the formation of The Democracy Defense Project (DDP) in Nevada and several other states, an initiative dedicated to upholding the transparency, security, and legitimacy of Nevada’s elections. Serving on the board are former Republican Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and former Democrat Speaker of the Nevada Assembly Richard Perkins, both of whom were elected by Nevada voters many times and have extensive experience in and dedication to safeguarding Nevada’s democratic elections.

In an era where public confidence in the integrity of our elections is under threat, DDP is uniting respected leaders on both sides of the political aisle to restore faith in our electoral system. As a proactive force against efforts to undermine trust in election integrity, these prominent Nevada leaders, along with others, will defend the principles of democracy, advocate for those committed to upholding the rule of law, lead efforts to enhance confidence in election outcomes, and promote voter engagement statewide.

“As Nevadans, we understand the fundamental importance of fair and transparent elections upheld by the principles of our Republic and great state,” Sandoval said. “The Democracy Defense Project embodies our bipartisan commitment to safeguarding the integrity of our voting processes and will ensure all Nevadans can trust in the legitimacy of our electoral system.”

“Democracy thrives when citizens trust in the fairness of their elections,” added Perkins. “The Democracy Defense Project will work tirelessly to protect Nevada’s election system from attempts to erode public trust, advocating for policies that strengthen transparency, and uphold the principles of representative democracy.”

DDP intends to leverage both earned and paid media to launch a campaign aimed at exposing and countering attempts to subvert elections nationwide, promoting constructive dialogue over divisive and threatening rhetoric.

Democracy Defense Project’s Board of Directors includes distinguished leaders with service at the federal, state and local levels; the group’s founding Board members include:

  • Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ)
  • Gov. Nathan Deal (R-GA)
  • Gov. Brian Sandoval (R-NV)
  • Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA)
  • Gov. Roy Barnes (D-GA)
