Columbus, OH – Following the shooting at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania, Democracy Defense Project (DDP) Ohio Board Members J. Kenneth Blackwell (R) and Zack Space (D) released the following statements:

“I’m deeply disturbed by this senseless violence, and I pray for President Trump and the victims. Our country has been tested before, and I believe America will overcome this terrible tragedy. I’m fully committed to doing everything in my power to ensure voters feel safe supporting the candidate of their choosing and our strong, secure electoral process will continue forward despite today’s horrific events.” – Ken Blackwell

“I’m sickened by the violence in Pennsylvania and have the former president and the victims in my thoughts. No matter our political beliefs, we must never turn to violence to resolve our differences; that’s what the ballot box is for. It’s time for our country to dial back the dangerous rhetoric and come together to preserve the sacred democratic institutions that make our country so great.” – Zack Space

Democracy Defense Project Ohio works to defend the transparency, safety, security and validity of Ohio’s elections system. Former Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell (R-OH) and former United States Congressman Zack Space (D-OH) serve as board members in the state.
